I went to Robert is Here in The Redlands a few months back as I have been wanting to know what the hype was about. I used to live in the Homestead area and every now and then I would driver by and see tour buses parked outside but it never quite spiked my interest, or at least, enough to stop and see for myself. Move forward 8 years since I moved from homestead and found myself driving down south again to visit this farm. I have to admit it is a 30 minute drive from where I now live. I don’t mind the drive as I am one of the few that happen to find driving relaxing.
On this particular Saturday I asked my eldest son to go with me as it was a bit cloudy and I wanted some company. We pulled up to this farm with red ceilings and red wooden panels. Parking was not a hassle at all. As we walked toward the entrance I noticed people in line and I started to worry a little; however, as we got closer we can see that the line was not as bad as I thought. If you know anything about Robert is Here fruit stand, you might have heard or read that they are known for their fresh fruit milkshakes and that is exactly what the line was for.
We decided to try their milkshakes first, the line even though from afar looked long, after a few minutes it was our turn to order their milkshakes, they have the milkshake menu in plain view so that you can choose while you are in line. I decided to try the Guanabana shake(big mistake) and my son ordered the Strawberry and kiwi shake. I say “big mistake” for my Guanabana shake because unfortunately, they blended with the seeds and all, so every sip that I took I had to spit out the crushed seeds, the milkshake itself was yummy but the amount of seed grind was too much for my liking. On the plus size, the size of the drink was huge, okay, for almost $5.00 it should be right, but trust me, this cup was huge, well at least it was for me.
Robert Is here fruit stand sits on their family farm. Beside the milkshake stand, they have their mini store where they have fresh produce, homemade salsa, homemade honey(variety of flavors), homemade jelly and jams. What is great about this place is that you can taste the majority of their products before you buy and go happy buying that ones that you enjoy. Toward the back of the mini store, they have a small petting zoo and even a small water park for the young ones. Plenty of picnic tables for those who want to sit down and enjoy whatever you bought from them.
A word of advise, don’t wear your best shoes or best outfit as it is an outdoor place. The produce section does have a concrete floor; however, if you wonder toward the back where the petting zoo and picnic tables are located, be forewarned as it is a dirt road.
Prices are good, not that expensive and you are buying fresh fruit and vegetables. The people who work there are very friendly and helpful and you might even get Mr. Robert to check you out(cash register). He happened to be our cashier on this particular day and he was very friendly and don’t be surprised that he uses the old-fashioned paper back calculator, what you don’t know what I mean? well, he wrote the prices for the items that my son and I purchased on a small brown paper bag where he added them by hand and used the register only to put our money in and give us our change back. Talk about old fashion(in the good way).
“If you happen to be in the area, I recommend stopping by and checking out as for me it was a BEEN THERE, DONE THAT kind of visit.”
