WAWA has arrived to Kendall
Last year when I saw the construction taking place on 120 street and 137th Avenue I was excited. I had hear about WAWA on tv and the news was making such a hoopla that it peaked my interest.
Well, a couple of weeks ago while driving to and from work I encountered a lot of traffic and I realized that it was coming from the newly opened WAWA. The lines of cars waiting to enter the convenience store, not sure what to call it, was ridiculous long. It looked like the lines of people waiting to buy gas before a hurricane in Miami. I guess the gas price of $1.99/gallon had something to do with the long lines.
Anyhow, I dragged my husband the first weekend it opened, although the lines had gone down significantly parking was kind of an issue. We ended up parking in the ALDIS parking lot. shh!
It was like walking into a gas convenience store on a larger scale, although some Miami gas stations already have cafe’s or cafeterias where they sell mostly Latin food, WAWA gives the locals another alternative to fast food with their hoagies, salads, milkshakes, breakfast sandwiches, coffee.
I told my husband that we must try their hoagies so we graded to the food area but weren’t sure about the ordering process. Being that it was the first week of grand opening they had several employees directing customers, so we asked one of them and she showed us the way to an area where there are touch screen tablets. You place the order on these tablets, you then go to any of the registers to pay for your order, once paid you head to the order pick up section to wait for your number to be called. Now we know how to order.
WAWA has convenient tablets where you place your order, be prepared to spend a few minutes placing your order as there are many options to choose from. But the screen is self explanatory. So don’t panic.
We ordered a few hoagies and a milkshakes. So after placing our order we grabbed the receipt that prints out and went to pay at the cash register. There, you will receive your receipt and depending on the size of your order, you will receive an empty plastic bag (yes plastic) to place your items once you have picked them up from the pick up area.
Milkshakes, Icees and Sodas for $.99(check the prices as this might have been a Grand Opening special price)
After a long wait, I won’t complain too much because I understand they were overwhelmed with the grand opening, we were called to pick up our milkshakes first. I did noticed that the employees didn’t verify if the customer had pay. What’s to stop a not so nice person to walk up and grab someone else’s drink or food for free. Just saying.
In may opinion, the food is mediocre and the milkshakes are okay, nothing to write home to mother. But I like the fact that the Kendall area now has more options for fast food.
I do see that their gas prices are about $.10 cheaper than surrounding gas stations, so that too is an added benefit of having WAWA in our neighborhood, although, we can do without the
additional traffic. Geez!
Have been to WAWA yet?
